Every anime usually falls under at least 4 or 5 different categories....

Audience

There are 7 different audience levels for an anime. These are used to recomend the age you should be or what gender usually watches the anime.

  • Josei: Josei animes are usually written by woman and are reccomended more for woman ages 18+.  (These animes are not always sexual and the age rating can sometimes be 16+)
  • Kodomo: Kodomo animes are more recommended for young children, they are designed for the childs short attention span and usually try to teach a child how to act around people using daily lessons.
  • Kazoku: Kazoku animes are animes that are intended for families. They have no real age range, but its most likely rated something like G or PG.
  • Mina: Mina animes are more of a drama anime, its recommended for girls, but a lot of guys actually watch it as well.
  • Seinen: Seinen anime are usually targeted for men ages 18+ and are written by men. (These animes are not always sexual and the age rating can sometimes be 16+)
  • Shōjo: Shōjo anime is written for girls ages 10+. They are usually malodramatic stories of romance, usually with a female protaganist.
  • Shōnen: Shōnen anime is often written for boys ages 13+. They usually have high action, as well as have humorous plots with male protaganists.

There are 3 different content indicators in an anime. These are here to tell you what to expect in the anime.

There are 3 different dynamics that are usually found in anime.

Elements

There are aproximately 78 different types of elements in an anime. The elements are the usualy genres you find in the anime. They tell you exactly what to expect in it.

  • Action: A class of creative works characterised by a greater emphasis on exciting action sequences than on character development or story-telling. - Action anime can break off into 6 different categories.
  • Gunfight

  • Adventure: The context of a narrative, is typically applied to works in which the protaganist or other major characters are consistantly placed in dangerous sistuations, and a fictional character who lives by their wits and their skills.
  • Angst: Used to decribe intense feeling, fear, anxiety or strife. The fear of possible suffering and a behavior resulting from uncertainty and strain which is caused by pain, loss and death.
  • Anthropomorphism: The attribution of uniquely human characteristics to nonhuman beings, inanimate objects, or natural or supernatural phenomena.
  • Comedy: A play, movie, etc., of light and humorous character with a happy or cheerful ending; a dramatic work in which the central motif is the triumph over adverse circumstance, resulting in a successful or happy conclusion. - Comedy anime can break off into 4 different categories.

  • Detective/Mystery: Any affair, thing, or person that presents features or qualities so obscure as to arouse curiosity or speculation.
  • Ecchi: A vague sexual content (such as skimpy clothing, partial or full nudity), but does not show sexual intercourse. - Ecchi anime can break off into 6 different categories.

  • Fantasy: Fiction characterized by highly fanciful or supernatural elements. Imagination unrestricted by reality. - Fantasy anime can break off into 10 different categories.

  • Harem: A single average male character is surrounded by numerous (usually 3 to 7) attractive females, most of whom are romantically interested in the main character.
  • Horror: An overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear.
  • Incest: Sexual intercourse or intemate relations between closely related people.
  • Mahou Shojo: Mahou Shojo (magical girl) stories feature young girls with superhuman abilities who are forced to fight evil and protect the Earth.
  • Romance: Ardent emotional attachment or involvement between people; love. - Romance can break off into 4 different categories.

  •  SciFi: A form of fiction that draws imaginatively on scientific knowledge and speculation in its plot, setting, theme, etc. - SciFi anime can break into 14 different categories.

There are about 18 different kinds of fetishes in an anime. These feteshes are most common in Ecchi, Henti and Harem animes.

  • Bishounen: A young man whos beauty (and sexual appeal) transends the boundary of sex.   In simpler terms Bishounen are "pretty boys".
